The Association for Medical Education and Research in Substance Abuse (AMERSA) has opportunities for health professionals to learn about alcohol, tobacco and other drug issues. Up to 15 full or partial awards* (including travel, hotel accommodations, and conference registration) are available to attend the 2017 AMERSA National Conference. NIDA has funded this program to accomplish specific goals: to include educators, researchers and clinicians from underserved racial/ethnic groups, to increase representation from diverse professions in AMERSA, and to facilitate dissemination of the knowledge acquired to broader audiences.

Applicants must be:
(a) Health professional educators, researchers and clinicians in practice or in training (e.g., doctoral students)
(b) Conducting drug and/or alcohol-related education, training, clinical practice and/or research
Preference will be given to:
(a) Health professionals from minority or underrepresented backgrounds, including Latinos, African Americans, women, LGBTQ individuals, and/or those who are from traditionally minority institutions
(b) Members of health professions that AMERSA is targeting for increased participation (for example, but not limited to: nursing, social work, psychology, pharmacology, dentistry, allied health professions)
(c) Individuals with the ability to disseminate knowledge and skills from the national meeting to their students or trainees
(d) Individuals who submit an abstract, poster or workshop presentation – (Travel award recipients who apply for a second year of funding will be expected to submit proposals)
(e) Individuals involved in research, education and/or clinical care with underserved populations, particularly Latinos, African Americans, or women.
Awardees must commit to attending the entire 3-day conference.
