- The total time period for each paper presentation is 15 minutes. Please plan a 10-minute oral presentation allowing 5 minutes for questions. Please note, the abstract session moderators are under strict instructions to keep each speaker to 10 minutes.
- An effective 10-minute presentation typically consists of 10-14 slides; with no more than 6 lines of text per slide and font sizes no smaller than 24 points.

Presenters should plan to upload your presentation to the session computer at least 1-2 hours prior to the start of the session. We are unable to access presentations from the internet.
- AMERSA staff will download presentations from each session for inclusion on the AMERSA website. Please be sure to leave your presentation on the session computer unless you do NOT want your presentation shared.
It is the policy of the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP) that CME presentations be reviewed by the educational activity Chair and CME Office prior to the activity. The purpose of the review is to ensure that the content is aligned with the overall goals of the program and the interests of the public and that no potential commercial bias exists, requirements of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). We will reach out to presenters with potential conflicts of interest with additional details about the review process. Please also declare any conflict of interest or lack thereof on one of your slides.
The objectives of the AMERSA National Conference are to bring together health professional educators to learn about scientific advances and exemplary teaching approaches, and to foster effective and continuing communication among all participants. In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by Association for Multidisciplinary Education and Research in Substance use and Addiction (AMERSA) and American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP). The American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). In 2021, AAAP added accreditation by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA), American Psychological Association (APA), Association for Social Work Boards (ASWB) and the American Dental Association (ADA).
Please be reminded that all recommendations involving clinical medicine must be based on evidence that is accepted within the profession of medicine as adequate justification for their indications and contraindications in the care of patients. All scientific research referred to, reported or used in the presentation must conform to the generally accepted standards of experimental design, data collection and analysis. In addition, presentations that are part of a CME activity must not contain any advertising, trade name or a product-group message.
AMERSA is committed to the pursuit of actionable research and evidence-based care that tangibly enriches and impacts our communities. We strongly encourage AMERSA members to actively engage in advocacy efforts at any level of their choosing, utilizing their expertise to champion meaningful change within their respective spheres of influence. Therefore, we respectfully request all conference presenters to include, within their presentations, at least one actionable takeaway aimed at affecting meaningful improvements in care. These takeaways may include specific implications for changing clinical practice, suggestions for policymakers to consider policy or legislative changes, or recommended reforms within healthcare settings to evaluate or implement system adaptations. We also request that all conference presenters examine how intersecting structural characteristics (e.g. race, education, employment, housing) affect substance use care access and outcomes and consider including this data in their presentations. In addition, we encourage AMERSA presenters to incorporate photographs (with permission) and include case scenarios that reflect a broad range of patient / client populations.
